It depends on a number of different factors like how big your house is, how much land you have etc. if you buy solar panels then it will take many years for you to recoup your money, that is why i made this site about building your own solar panels for a fraction of the cost!
The only disadvantage is the initial set up costs, however, building your own is a great alternative. As the solar panels become more popular they will continue to drop in price and with governments assistance, should become affordable. With the price of electricity continually rising this is a good option to go.
